Intellidex was founded in 2008 as an independent research company focused on financial services and capital markets. We support a worldwide client base ranging from institutional investors to banks.

We are looking to strengthen a rapidly growing business area focusing on Infrastructure and the just energy transition (JET) by hiring an analyst to work with our dynamic research and consulting team.

The right candidate will have experience working or studying infrastructure or energy policy related issues, understand the issues around these sectors including financing, risks, political economy considerations, complex project planning or similar. This is a mid-level position with the opportunity to grow into leadership in either research or consulting. The right candidate will be expected to become a recognised thought leader in South Africa on infrastructure and the just energy transition over time.

The position will involve ongoing analysis of infrastructure and energy policies and procurement processes, including regulatory and legislative matters as well as the politics and funding issues around them. It will include some project tracking and due diligence for clients and responding to client requests for insights across the infrastructure and energy spectrum. You will be expected to think outside the box in mapping and forecasting the future path of infrastructure and JET in South Africa. It will also involve developing creative financing solutions to support the JET.

Outputs are periodic reports for clients, ad-hoc detailed research and due diligence, interactions online and in person with clients. Over time a candidate could be rewarded for business development and expanding this business area.

Clients include investors, local and foreign banks, international multilateral financial institutions, asset managers, private equity companies and organised business. The role is based within our research operation but is collaborative, working closely with our strategy consulting team.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in finance, public policy, economics or a social science of a similar nature, preferably a master’s degree or higher.
  • Five years’ experience in a relevant area – this could include an infrastructure or energy function at an investment bank or consulting company, in a fund or rating agency, or in an NGO or multilateral institution looking at infrastructure. (You could also have had a wider experience in finance and consulting or be just finishing advanced studies in infrastructure or energy related areas.)
  • Good knowledge of South African infrastructure policy landscape including energy policy and the JET as an issue.

  • Excellent communications and writing skills, and be able to present to clients
