Krutham MD Peter Attard Montalto joins Newzroom Afrika with Tumisang Tseladimitloa Ndlovu to discuss the need for political attention to macroeconomic dynamics following the upcoming elections.

He points out that job growth has been exceptionally weak before and during Ramaphosa’s presidency. “We shouldn’t forget that the role of government is not just to create a few jobs here and there but to ensure a pace of employment growth that is faster than the growth of the labour market. This has not been happening.”

Peter says the growth dynamic for the first half of the year “is pretty weak” but expects it to pick up after the elections when some uncertainty falls away.
