“Some lessons are emerging from the international sector around the evolving role of the market operator. This entity is expected to function as the central platform for buying and selling electricity from both Eskom and independent power producers. At the same time, we are seeing the rise of energy traders and aggregators. NERSA has approved four energy trading licences to date and early activity in this space is showing encouraging progress,” says Matthew.
