Matthew is a sustainability expert, published author and journalist with 20 years of experience spanning finance, energy policy and corporate sustainability. He specialises in JET research, green finance and ESG strategy, providing advisory support to financial institutions, international development agencies and companies navigating sustainability challenges. 

At Krutham, he leads research and project management for ongoing studies on policy reform, finance innovation and infrastructure development related to South Africa’s energy transition. He has played a key role in due diligence projects related to electricity reform for international finance organisations and local energy off takers, as well as research projects like South Africa’s green infrastructure finance pipeline for the World Bank. 

Before joining Krutham, Matthew was Head of ESG and Integrated Thinking at Trialogue, where he helped organisations embed sustainability best practices and align their reporting with leading frameworks such as ISSB’s S1 and S2, JSE Sustainability Disclosure Guidance, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), SASB, CDP, GRI, and the Integrated Reporting Framework. His earlier career was in financial journalism, where he served as a senior content producer and deputy editor at Fin24 (now News24 Business), focusing on South Africa’s political economy, energy policy and infrastructure development.
